Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1: Why should I see a podiatrist instead of a physio, chiropractor or someone else?

Physiotherapists and chiropractors are highly skilled in their respective areas, but podiatrists are the healthcare professionals who specialise exclusively in the diagnosis and treatment of foot, ankle and lower limb conditions.

If your pain is coming from your feet or the way your feet are functioning, a podiatrist is often the best place to start. If we believe another practitioner would better suit your condition, we'll happily refer you to the right person and work alongside them when appropriate.

Question 2: Can you help if I've had pain for months or even years?

Yes. Many of our patients have already tried rest, different shoes, stretching, or seen other health professionals before coming to us.

Persistent pain often means the underlying cause hasn't been fully identified. Our goal is to understand why your pain developed and create a treatment plan that addresses the cause—not just the symptoms.

Question 3: Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly without a referral.

If you're eligible for a GP Management Plan (formerly EPC/CDM), DVA, WorkCover or NDIS funding, we can also help guide you through those pathways.

Question 4: Will I need orthotics?

Not necessarily.

Orthotics are only one of many treatment options and are recommended when they're likely to provide meaningful benefit.

Depending on your condition, treatment may involve footwear advice, strength and mobility exercises, activity modification, taping, rehabilitation, dry needling, or a combination of approaches.

Question 5: What happens during my first appointment?

We'll spend time understanding your symptoms, goals and activity levels before performing a comprehensive assessment.

This may include:

- Foot and ankle examination

- Strength and flexibility testing

- Walking or running gait assessment

- Video analysis

- In-shoe pressure analysis

- Footwear assessment

- 3D laser foot scanning (if orthoses are indicated)

You'll leave with a clear explanation of your diagnosis and an individualised treatment plan.

Question 6: Do you only treat athletes?

Not at all.

While we have a strong interest in sports injuries, we also care for people of all ages—from children developing their walking pattern through to older adults wanting to remain active and independent.

Question 7: Will private health insurance cover my appointment?

If you have extras cover that includes podiatry, you'll generally be able to claim part of your consultation on the day using HICAPS.

The rebate depends on your individual policy.

Question 8: How do I know if I need a running assessment?

An in-depth running assessment is worthwhile if you're:

- Frequently getting injured

- Returning from injury

- Training for an event

- Experiencing pain while running

- Unsure whether your shoes suit you

- Looking to improve efficiency or reduce injury risk

About us

Hi, I'm Ben - Podiatrist & Owner

For more than 20 years, I've been helping people overcome foot, heel, ankle and lower limb pain so they can get back to doing what they love.

My approach is simple—I focus on finding the underlying cause of your problem, not just treating the symptoms to get you moving and back to the things you love.

Since graduating with First Class Honours from QUT in 2004, I've had the privilege of helping thousands of patients, from busy parents and active retirees to elite athletes. I was honoured to be selected as one of only eight podiatrists nationwide to provide care at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and I served as Team Podiatrist for the Queensland Firebirds and Netball Queensland.

As a former owner/clinical consultant to one of Australia's largest orthotic laboratories, I have extensive experience in biomechanics, custom orthotics and sports injury rehabilitation.

Whether you're struggling with everyday foot pain or a stubborn sports injury, my goal is to give you clear answers, an accurate diagnosis and a personalised treatment plan that helps you move with confidence again.
